What causes Alzheimer's

While the exact cause isn’t fully understood, scientists believe it's due to a mix of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Abnormal buildups of proteins in and around brain cells (called amyloid plaques and tau tangles) are key features.

What's Alzheimer's disease

Imagine the brain as a complex computer. With Alzheimer’s, certain parts of the brain start to “shut down,” making it harder to remember names, hold conversations, or even recognize loved ones. It's not just about forgetting things—Alzheimer’s deeply affects how someone thinks, feels, and interacts with the world around them.

Common Risk Factors

  • Age (most common after age 65)

  • Family history and genetics

  • Head injuries

  • Poor heart health (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.)

  • Lack of physical and mental activity
